As winter turns into spring, we’ve highlighted some of the best places and events to check out across the Southeast. Be sure to take the backroads to get there—and check each website for details before you head out.
Mix It Up Weekend at Mountain Lake

Conway, South Carolina
Children can learn about marbled paper and how it was used in the past during this free activity. Parents can sign their children up for thirty-minute sessions between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Group sizes will be limited.
Birding Basics
March 6, 13, and 20, 2025
Crooked River State Park
St. Mary’s, Georgia
This event runs from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Learn birding basics as you hike and explore the Crooked River area. Guests are encouraged to bring their own binoculars and water, and to wear good hiking shoes. A limited number of binoculars are available—first come first serve—for those who don’t have a pair.
Daffodil Day
March 15, 2025
Bell Buckle, Tennessee
This annual festival began in 1978 and celebrates the coming of spring with thousands of daffodils that line the roads and farmlands for a six-mile stretch of highway leading into Bell Buckle. Local lore says that ol’ Sawney Webb—founder of the renowned Webb School in 1870—began the mass plantings over a hundred years ago as a “character-building” discipline for some of the school’s students.
Wings & Things Festival & Fly-In
March 22, 2025
Douglas, Georgia
Spend the day at Douglas Municipal Airport viewing warbirds, antique military vehicles, and a car show. Enjoy food trucks, vendors, a kids area, live entertainment, a hot wings cook-off, and more. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Viking Experience
March 22-23 and March 29-30, 2025
Oxford, North Carolina
The Viking Experience Festival runs for two weekends, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. After hours shows are 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Saturdays. Explore 15 acres of Viking fun at this festival featuring interactive characters, reenactors, music, a fairy glen, dancing, games, vendors, food, classes, axe throwing, mead tasting, fight pits, skits, and more.
Feast Wilmington
March 24-30, 2025
Wilmington, North Carolina
Enjoy various tasty events during this weeklong event, including Craft + Cuisine, Pier Party, and Brunch Elevated. Tickets are available for individual events. There are also cuisine experiences including The Muses Garden, Home Grown, and Pies & Pints. Check out the culinary talent attending the event here.
