Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park

Located south of Gainesville in north-central Florida, Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park protects a vast natural basin where wetlands, grasslands, and woodlands converge. A network of trails and observation platforms allows visitors to explore the preserve’s diverse habitats and abundant wildlife. Throughout the year, wild horses, bison, alligators, and countless bird species can often be seen across the open prairie. Framed by expansive skies, swaying grasses, and seasonal marshes, the preserve offers a striking reminder of the wild landscapes that once covered much of the Florida peninsula.
